Fans Want “Heroes for Hire” With Finn Jones & Mike Colter

According to an article in We Got This Covered, fans are discussing the possibility of a reteam between Finn as DANNY RAND or THE IRON FIST with his THE DEFENDERS co-star, Mike Colter, to reprise his role as LUKE CAGE in a series for Disney+ HEROES FOR HIRE. The article states with the return of THE DEFENDERS properties to Marvel/Disney the possibilities are becomes real. My only issue with the article is it’s a little less than kind to Finn in stating he was not included in the video showing the addition to Disney+, but he was. I think that was disrespectful.

Fans demand a ‘Heroes for Hire’ show, Iron Fist included

Slowly but surely, the former Netflix shows are being absorbed back into official Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, with recent events indicating that a potential Heroes for Hire miniseries isn’t the most far-fetched idea in the world.

Not only has the Defenders Saga been rebranded and added to Disney Plus, but Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock returned to the fray in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk was reintroduced as the big bad of Hawkeye, and Marvel’s own website acknowledged the pair’s three-season run on a rival streaming service as being part of mainline continuity.

Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter set the internet ablaze when they posed for a photo together, while Jon Bernthal is happy to shout from the rooftops that he’s open to playing the Punisher again. With that in mind, perhaps the biggest surprise about MCU fans on Reddit calling on a Heroes for Hire show is the fact that Finn Jones’ Iron Fist is included in the conversation.

Jones’ Danny Rand wasn’t even part of the promos showcasing the Defenders arriving on Disney Plus, so we can probably rule him out of the running. MCU enthusiasts were recently celebrating Simone Missick’s Misty Knight, though, while Jessica Henwick admitted she turned down a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings partly in the hope that Colleen Wing would be brought back into the action.

It might be a long shot, but the churn of content is never going to stop, and there are plenty of far worse pitches out there than getting the band back together in a Heroes for Hire project.

Marvel “Defenders” Shows to Leave Netflix

According to many sources, all the Marvel shows with THE DEFENDERS characters of Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) are all set to leave Netflix this month. Not exactly sure what this means, but here’s hoping it means we just might be getting extensions of all these shows with all these characters and hopefully the actors. More below.

Netflix Warning Says It’s Removing ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Punisher,’ And All Its Marvel Defenders Shows

Well this is pretty big. Netflix has now started to show a brief message to some viewers who are booting up the Defenders suite of Marvel shows for the first time, saying that they will be removed from the service on March 1. I just tested it out myself, playing Iron Fist episode one, and the March 1 message does indeed appear in the corner, albeit for quite literally, under a second.

The shows on this list would include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and the Defenders crossover series. They are a relic of another age before Disney was doing its own Marvel shows on Disney Plus, and they were a partner, not a rival to Netflix.

But now, fans already have realized that the deal between Netflix and Marvel has expired for these characters, hence Matt Murdock appearing in the new Spider-Man and Kingpin showing up in Hawkeye on Disney Plus. And it stands to reason if these shows are coming down off Netflix in March, they are likely headed to either Disney Plus itself, or possibly the Disney-owned Hulu, which could be seen as a better fit for the more violent series like Daredevil and Punisher, which have “adult content” beyond what Disney’s MCU shows have done so far.

I suppose I realized that this was probably going to happen eventually, but those shows are so intimately linked with Netflix, it’s weird to see them leave. That was during a strange era where Marvel TV and Marvel movies were very disconnected, as though all those series were technically in the MCU, there were never really any true crossovers with the movies.

dy seen this happened with two different Daredevil characters, including its star, and more are supposed to return for the upcoming Echo series. There’s even talk of restarting Daredevil altogether. And if that’s happening, you might be able to imagine other characters like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage could reappear somewhere as well in the universe.

Jon Bernthal, The Punisher, said he was only interested in returning to the role if the show would remain as “true” to the character as it has been, ie. being extremely violent, which again, feels like a Hulu thing, rather than being able to exist on Disney Plus. Jessica Henwick recently said in an interview that she turned down a role in Shang-Chi because she was holding out hope that her Colleen Wing Iron Fist character could return to the MCU someday, and that wouldn’t happen if she was cast as a different part (I’d certainly watch a new season of Iron Fist starring her, though not Danny Rand).

So, we’ll see if Netflix or Disney has something to say officially about this. But the notice is real, I’ve seen it myself, and this removal appears to be imminent. I’d prioritize getting through Daredevil seasons 1-3, Jessica Jones season 1 and Punisher season 1 before they leave, if you haven’t seen them yet.

Update: Netflix also has Agents of SHIELD, but I did not see the March 1 message there, while I have now confirmed it shows up on the other six Netflix-MCU shows. SHIELD was originally on ABC, and may be part of a separate agreement

Slowly Netflix Marvel Shows Being Incorporated into the MCU

This post will be duplicated to my Charlie Cox Online, Finn Jones Online, and Mike Colter Online sites as it concerns all three of them. This article appeared in the aftermath of Charlie’s appearance in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in Disney Plus’ Hawkeye series. It concerns the incorporation of all the Netflix Marvel shows into the greater MCU pantheon. My only concern is with the confirmation of Charlie and Vincent, there is little doubt to the inclusion of Krysten Ritter as the titular JESSICA JONES, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher/Frank Castle, there is still huge doubt as to whether the other two of THE DEFENDERS in Mike Colter as LUKE CAGE will be in it. Even less so Finn Jones as DANNY RAND/IRON FIST as to most he is the “weakest link” in them all. For me without Mike and most certainly without Finn I think the presence in this new sugar coated “Disney”verse will not be complete. Recasting any of them would be a huge fail.

The Marvel Netflix Shows Might Be Finally, FINALLY Crossing Over With the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has only gotten bigger over the past 13 years. Between an absurd amount of movies, several new series on Disney Plus, and a reality-shattering Spider-Man movie bringing in films from other studios, there’s practically no stopping Marvel’s grasp over pop culture. It’s gotten so huge, in fact, that we just might be able to fit in the heroes from the Marvel Netflix shows after all.

The almost-unwieldy canon of the MCU has been cracked open even further by the revelations of series like Loki. With timelines breaking and the facets of the multiverse constantly leaking into each other, the threads connecting shows to movies have become more distinct. The potential for new and highly anticipated entries to the universe like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four is almost entirely apparent at this point. Of course, that could spell good news for the once-defunct Netflix shows.

Will the Marvel Netflix shows return?

In 2015, Daredevil began streaming on Netflix. The gritty, violent adaptation of Marvel’s “Man Without Fear” received critical acclaim during its first season. The show also kicked off an entirely new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one that shone a spotlight on lesser-known heroes in the pantheon. Daredevil and its successive shows tackled heavier themes and storylines while still taking place in the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher were all shows that expanded the MCU at large, all while proving that the superhero franchise could have a darker side to it. This experimental side canon went strong for almost four years, but in that time, it became increasingly clear that these grittier heroes weren’t going to cross over with the movies any time soon.

While the New York City-based shows were able to feature nods to the larger canon — namely discussing the Chitauri attack and namedropping an Avenger every now and then — there were never any signs that the shows could ever interact with the movies more openly. In March 2015, Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb even stated at the time that the goal of having a big crossover was a ways away.

“We have to earn that,” Jeph Loeb said about the potential for Avengers showing up alongside the Marvel Netflix heroes. “The audience needs to understand who all of these characters are and what the world is before you then start comingling in terms of where it’s going.”

By 2019, all hope seemed lost. The Marvel Netflix shows seemed to fizzle out unceremoniously with the third and final season of Jessica Jones in 2019. As per Marvel’s contract with Netflix, the former would have to wait two years after cancellation before being able to do anything with the characters.

But by 2021, Marvel Studios has wasted little time in getting these heroes back on their feet. Vincent D’Onofrio recently reprised his role as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin in Hawkeye on Disney Plus. With the resurgence of a fan-favorite character from Daredevil, the floodgates are officially open for the Marvel Netflix shows to make a comeback. Though they may not see any new seasons on Netflix, they may just show up in the many upcoming Marvel Studios projects in the future.

“Iron Fist” – E1X03 Rolling Thunder Cannon Punch Screencaps

Episode three of IRON FIST. In this episode I have to say that I loved the presence of Carrie-Anne Moss playing Jeryn Hogarth. I loved how she came fit for battle with Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) and Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup). Note to self: If I’m ever in trouble and need legal help, Jeryn is the name to call…. But then I think she’d be out of my price range so I guess it’s Nelson & Murdock (Elden Hensen and Charlie Cox). I think I might have some avocados I can give them.

“Iron Fist” – E1X02 Shadow Hawk Takes Flight Screencaps

Here are the screencaps from episode two of IRON FIST. I’m getting them done slowly because it does take a lot of time to cap. I’m hoping to get them all done before the premiere of THE DEFENDERS in August, though I’m believing right now I will do. In this episode we get to see the full on “Fist” when Danny escapes from the mental asylum. I loved the scene with the M&Ms when Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup) sent them to Danny wondering if this is the real Danny, and if he’ll remember she never liked the brown ones. All in all a pretty good episode.

More News on The Defenders From “Daredevil” Charlie Cox

I posted this over at my Charlie Cox site, and instead of trying to come up with something new to put here, I thought I’d just copy and paste. So here we go……

A Youtube channel called Emergency Awesome just posted an excerpted audio interview with Charlie about DAREDEVIL and including THE DEFENDERS and news that filming is about to begin on DAREDEVIL Season Three, how they filmed THE DEFENDERS using all the best people from all the Netflix shows including LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST & JESSICA JONES. Charlie also talked about the production on THE PUNISHER series with Jon Bernthal as well as the fact he hasn’t received that phone call concerning the possibility of appearing in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. He also discussed how season two for DAREDEVIL was more about the mysticism as it would ultimately lead into IRON FIST with Finn Jones, as oppose to what happened in season one of DAREDEVIL which Charlie called more of a police show with a superhero element. All in all it’s a great interview. Emergency Awesome cut the longer interview down to cover the main points, so I’m trying to find the longer version. When I do I’ll post here. If anyone else finds it please leave a link in the comments section of this post.

New Scan Added :: Iron Fist Review

This review was done by Sci-Fi Now and I have to say that the review wasn’t as savage as most have been on the show. Fortunately they don’t carry on the ridiculousness that Danny should have been played by an Asian actor. Though the review isn’t necessarily doing cartwheels about the show, I’m glad it remained neutral… unlike most of the other reviews. The link to the scan is within the [ ] brackets.
